I ended up with this silk dress some time ago — as I remember, the previous owner was eager to get rid of it, and I agreed to take it simply because it was silk. The dress had absolutely no shaping at all, and was very blah and boring — the gold color really didn’t help at all. I decided to alter it.
I put in an empire waist, added bust darts, shortened the dress, and put in pleats in the front. Then I crocheted some black cotton thread and sewed it on.
The silk wasn’t as tricky to work with as I first thought that it would be. Despite it being gold, this fabric is actually fairly nice.
